Zaporeak Proiektua responds to the Global Refugee Crisis by preparing over 1,200 lunch meals every day for refugees on Chios Island in Greece. Their daily menu is diverse and prepared with care and attention. They distribute their meals at the Souda refugee camp to both Souda camp residents as well as refugees who travel from the military-run Vial refugee camp to Souda for the Zaporeak meals. Refugees have the option to obtain their meals from either location, and many Vial residents travel to Souda by bus for these meals rather than eat the military-issued meals in Vial, which are of different quality. Refugees are provided a daily ration card to track their meals. The food and funding is provided by the Norwegian Refugee Counsel and European Union Humanitarian Aid. Many Zaporeak volunteers come from the Basque region of Spain. The Chios Eastern Shore Response Team (CESRT) assists in the daily lunch preparation with Zaporeak.
